Catholics: Other?

Georgetown University  Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate recently surveyed 1,007 Catholic adults about this year  presidential election. According to CARA  findings, more people identified themselves as Democrats than as Republicans — though most didn  side with either party, breaking from previous election trends.

Party identification of U.S. adult Catholics in 2008:

  • Democrat: 38%
  • Republican: 21%
  • 3rd parties, apolitical, etc.: 41%

In 2004:

  • Democrat: 39%
  • Republican: 31%
  • 3rd parties, apolitical, etc.: 30%

In 2000:

  • Democrat: 37%
  • Republican: 28%
  • 3rd parties, apolitical, etc.: 35%

The survey  margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Find it and more surveys at cara.georgetown.edu.
