Kauai school bids aloha to Sister Delores

By Chantal A. Duarte | Special to the Herald

St. Theresa Parish and School in Kekaha bid aloha on June 1 to Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Delores Wisnicky who has left for a new assignment in Wisconsin.

Many of her students and parish friends gathered for a bountiful potluck breakfast and entertainment by the parish choir, the Waimea’s Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Mission Church choir, and parish Filipino Catholic Club members with a beautiful solo by Zeny Bayudan. St. Theresa students who belong to the multi-denominational West Kauai Children’s Choir also sang.

Sister Delores was St. Theresa’s seventh grade homeroom teacher. She also taught reading to the sixth and seventh graders.

In Wisconsin, she will do parish ministry and teach religion to all grades at St. Mary’s School in Clarks Mill.

The Franciscan Sisters have served St. Theresa Parish and School for many years. Returning in the fall will be Sister Marie Bernadette Dorn, Sister Mary Ann Feminella, Sister Hannah Johnecheck and two new sisters.

To contact Sister Delores, write to her at Sister Delores Wisnicky, 2110 Mirro Drive, Manitowac, WI 54220-6720.

Carla Powell, an Osage Indian and lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Pawhuska, Okla., talks with Bishop Edward J. Slattery of Tulsa, Okla., during a special luncheon at the church Aug. 10. The bishop and Powell, an Osage Indian, were on hand for the dedication of a new parish shrine dedicated to Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. Following the dedication parishioners gathered for a traditional Osage meal. The church, founded in 1890 in Indian territory, has had a longtime connection to the Osage tribe.
